Frank Edwin Wright III alias Tré Cool, (lahir 9 Desember 1972) adalah seorang musisi dan drummer asal Amerika yang dikenal atas karyanya bersama band punk Amerika Green Day. Dia mulai menjadi drummer Green Day setelah menggantikan posisi John Kiffmeyer pada tahun 1990. Cool juga bermain untuk The Lookouts dan proyek sampingan Green Day, The Network dan Foxboro Hot Tubs.

Nama "Tré Cool" dikabarkan diberikan oleh vokalis The Lookouts, Larry Livermore, ketika dia diajak bergabung menjadi drummer.[5] Nama tersebut menggabungkan kata Prancis "très" (berarti "sangat")[6] dan kata Inggris "cool" (berarti "keren"). Namun terdapat pula kabar bertolakbelakang yang menyebut nama tersebut telah digunakan sebelum Cool bergabung dengan The Lookouts.[7]

Kehidupan dan karier

Frank Edwin Wright III lahir di Frankfurt, Jerman. Dia dibesarkan di daerah Willits, California bersama ayah dan kakak perempuannya, Lori. Ayahnya adalah seorang pilot Helikopter di perang Vietnam.[5] Wright memiliki seorang tetangga bernama Larry Livermore yang pada saat itu adalah vokalis band The Lookouts. Ketika berusia 12 tahun, dia diajak oleh Livermore untuk menjadi drummer Teh Lookouts. Dikabarkan bahwa nama "Tre Cool" deiberikan oleh Livermore, walaupun terdapat pula kabar lain yang tidak berkata demikian. Ketika drummer pertama Green Day, John Kiffmeyer, meninggalkan band, Billie Joe Armstrong dan Mike Dirnt merekrut Cool untuk menjadi drummer. Ayah Cool sangat suprotif terhadap Green Day dan mengatur transportasi mereka. Ayah Cool berkomentar tentang Green Day:

“ I watched them go from a bunch of kids to a group of musicians with work ethic. […] On their first tour or two, it was more of a party than anything else. I still scratch my head and say, 'How in the hell did they make it?' They used to practice in my living room here – a lot of the songs they did on Dookie. You hear it coming together, and you don't expect people are going to go out and buy it. But when it does, you just say, 'Wow that's so cool.' [8] ”

Pada 1998, setelah Green Day memenangkan trofi "Moon Man" di MTV Music Awards, Tre Cool melakukan tindakan heboh dengan memanjat Universal Globe di Universal Studios tanpa mendapat sanksi apapun, hanya pujian dan sorak-sorai. Cool menjadi satu-satunya orang yang pernah melakukannya.[9]
